  • HELP SAVE LIVES.

In California, a girl under 18
    can’t get a flu shot,
can’t get an aspirin from the school nurse,
can’t get a tooth pulled, and
can’t go on a school field trip
    without parental consent.

But an older boyfriend or school employee can take her to get a surgical or chemical abortion without her parents even knowing about it.

Proposition 85 will require a doctor to notify at least one parent 48 hours before performing an abortion on a minor, and will prohibit anyone from forcing a minor to get an abortion.

In California, all other surgeries on minors require written parental permission.

If you can vote in California, vote YES on Proposition 85.  Make sure you are registered to vote by the October 23rd deadline.

Even if you can’t vote, or don’t live in California, you can donate.  Why donate if you don’t live in California?  Besides that California has the most abortions in the U.S., California laws influence the laws of other states.

Even, if you can’t vote or donate, you can volunteer, tell someone else, or post on your blog or website.  Whatever you do, PRAY that Proposition 85 will pass.

Planned Parenthood, the largest operator of abortion clinics in the country, has raised $3,822,638.56 from January to September to oppose Proposition 85.  They have profits at stake.  How much more should we do, with lives (of both girls and babies) at stake?

“If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;  If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?” -Proverbs 24:11-12

  • Far from lowering the rate of abortion, the passing of Prop 85 would increase the number of unsafe, illegal, and/or late-term abortions.

  • That’s a concern that a lot of people have.  However, it’s just not backed by the evidence.

“The effects of implementing parental involvement laws are now very well known. In more than 30 states which have parental involvement laws in effect in some cases for many years, there is no evidence of any injury or death from an illegal abortion, parental abuse, or delayed medical care. In fact, there is no credible evidence that any minor has ever even resorted to an illegal abortion because of a parental involvement law. Given that these laws have been in effect in other states for years, even decades, affecting millions of teens, the absence of any evidence of harm to teens is powerful evidence that these dire predictions are completely off the mark. Parental notification helps teens; it doesn’t harm them.

“Unfortunately, opponents of parental notification eagerly exploit the public’s fear of mythical ‘back-alley’ abortions, counting on that fear to override common sense, sound medical practice and good public policy.”

This was the same concern that influenced Justice Blackmun’s decision in Roe v. Wade.  Since that decision, more women have died from “safe, legal” abortions than from “back-alley” abortions.

On the other hand, there is evidence that abortion notification reduces risky teen sex.
